Random startup freezes???

comp freezes on windows xp and vista bootups???

it's random too.

changed cpu fan.. to stock intel heatsink running at stock speed. freezes up on boots... first time it boot ok 2nd no ,, after a while 3rd it booted.. before i couldn't boot at all but now that i replaced the heatsink it's boots randomly which is still better than before . what could be causing this ... i know it's the cpu but is it defective??? it failed the burnin test (dos)before i changed the fan. If i gett it to boot into windows i do a stress test it doesn't even die. (well i did it for like 1/2 an hour..) peaked at62 with core temp.. still.... in bios before it said it was 47-50 C even so it should still boot.. is it the motherboard??? how do i test the motherboard if it is?? i know how to test everything else but this....Random startup freezes???
Well, it sounds like you've done your homework (as much as you can, really). It does sound like a cpu problem, but when I suspect cpu problems I usually don't screw with swapping out heat sinks. If you have another processor lying around that is the same socket type (unlikely, I know) try that and see what it does. If you have another mb lying around that is the same socket type (again, unlikely) try that... I would try buying another mb - they're not terribly expensive. You're gambling that that won't fix it, but so what? You might be ready to build a new PC anyway, and you can still use your comptuer case, ram, video card, sound card etc, so it's not that big'a deal. If you bought another processor (not so cheap) you run the risk of a possibly faulty mb frying your new and expensive processor.

But to answer your concerns a little more directly - I don't know of a tell-all solution to testing motherboards. Usually when they behave that bad, I just chunk'm.

Should I use Cool'N'Quiet?

I currently have Cool'N'Quiet disabled, but I just noticed that my heat sink is a little noisy. According to Speedfan, the heat sink fan is running at 5017 RPM, while the CPU is at 40c.

My question is if I should turn on Cool'N'Quiet. I don't know much about it, but I've heard that it can decrease performance, and decrease CPU life over time. Is this true? Should I use it or not?

Another option would be to just turn down the fan speed in Speedfan. But I don't know how low I should set it - it's at 100% right now. Would you recommend changing the speed in Speedfan and if so how low?

Thanks.Should I use Cool%26039;N%26039;Quiet?
Cool and quiet is a setting for small computers like a miniatx.

If your computer is bigger than that don't use it because it will only decrease performance and the chances are it wont do much in the way of making it %26quot;quiet!%26quot;.

Its just for these really big jet like fans on the small computers because they need to be controlled by temperature. Otherwise it would sound like a hoover 24/7Should I use Cool%26039;N%26039;Quiet?
the fan will slow down in cool n quiet mode and your temp will probably go up to 45-50 c your current temp is not very good for idle you should consider getting a new heatsink with a quiet fan in it then you wouldnt need cool n quiet i overlocked my computer and its runes at 32 C. Lowering the speed of the fan would make things buggy becaue the higher the temp of your cpu the more sluggish it gets

Any ideas on how to fix the fan in my 2000 Ford Focus?

I have already replaced the resistor pack for the fan but it still doesn't work. For a while, the fan was operating on its own at 2 speed and would not change despite moving the rotary knob. Later, the fan stopped working altogether. I have noticed other odd electrical %26quot;quirks%26quot; lately so I had the alternator tested as well. It is operated above12 Volt but only able to deliver 2A current at 2000RPM. Also, I checked the fuses and they are fine.Any ideas on how to fix the fan in my 2000 Ford Focus?
Heater fan ?, if so it may need to speed switch itself it may have burned out, I've seen this 2 or 3 times at work. Remove the radio and the heat control panel, check to see if the speed switch is burnt. if so try to get one from a junk yard there around $50.00 used. If the switch is not burnt out it may need the blower motor itself, check fuses there should be two of them for the heater fan 1=high speed only and 1=all the lower speeds.Any ideas on how to fix the fan in my 2000 Ford Focus?
I've got all schematics for blower motor and controls. Let me know if you need them to diagnose your problem.Any ideas on how to fix the fan in my 2000 Ford Focus?
2AMP current is normal if your battery is full of charge, cause by the regulator so it wont over charge your battery,,,

recheck your fuse,,,recheck resistor,,,,hit the fan motor on its side and see if it works ,if it does replace motor, brush worn out,,,,,

still not working ,,,,jumper motor direct from the battery to test,

if it works measure load in amps,,should be 60% of fuse rating or else youll burn your resistor again

Chev. Silverado 04, Air Conditioning Fan Switch?

Anyone know anything about the Fan Speed Switches on a 2004 Silverado?

When the truck was new, 5 on the Fan Speed went out, then it quit completely. Took it to the dealer and they fixed it. Not replaced, but fixed.

They said there was alot of trouble with these switches or relays or something.

Anyways, 5 %26amp; 4 quit working now. I've heard several people talk about he same problem.

Anyone know what parts to buy or how to change the switch out. Don't want to take to dealership and pay mass amounts of money for the fix if I can avoid it.Chev. Silverado 04, Air Conditioning Fan Switch?
the fan speeds are controlled by a series of electrical resistors. when you turn the switch it connects a couple of these resistors together to determine the speed.

they are a pain to get to because they are usually under the dash and inside of something else you have to take off.

With labor at 90 and better per hour it gets costly.

If you are somewhat handy get a manual and do it yourself.

the manual is 25 the part is less than 20 you do the math.

    Change card ram?

How can I change the amount of ram my vido card is allotted? I would like to give it more.

I want to do this because sometimes in a game textures will appear as black and purple checker boards but only after my computer has been on for a long time. Usually a restart will fix this.

Is this an over heating problem? Should i turn up my system fan speed, or is this a ram problem, I have a gig in here so I should be able to safely give it some without my computer suffering. Could it be my refresh rate? It is set at 60 right now.

My graphics card is an ATI RADEON EXPRESS 200 and right now it has 128mb to use.Change card ram?
The Video RAM (VRAM) is on the card and is hardware so you can't (sensibly) change that.

It does sound like there might be heat or other hardware issues going on here.

Too hard to diagnose in a chat site. Try a good repair/upgrade shop.

    ///Change card ram?
You can set the amount of system RAM it uses from within your computers BIOS. The maximum amount is 128MB, so if it is set to that already, that's as far as it will go. Go into your BIOS to check.

How to fix Buick Regal 2001 heater air-flow contol?

It clicks at the electric relay switch when I make a change in air-flow mode (windshield, floor, dash) but the air flow doesn't change directions. It just remains at partial flow at all vents. The relay that controls the airflow operates on vacuum from the engine. Check the relay under the passenger-side dashboard to make sure all the tubes are connected and unbroken. • Fan making too noice with my new motherboard?

i changed my motherboard to gigabyte g31m-es2l.i m having a dual core processor, but now the fan is noisy, which was too silent earlier.the cpu temp is around 54 degree .how can i control my fan speed,

is there is a software for it or its the motherboard who have to regulate it automaticallyFan making too noice with my new motherboard?
I suggest you re-apply thermal paste on your CPU. Also set the fan speed to whatever you want through the BIOS or use/disable the SmartFan or whatever other BIOS function that controls your fan speed.Fan making too noice with my new motherboard?
Which fan - the motherboard or one of the external fans? If the MB fan, you might replace it. It's much cheaper than replacing an overheated chip. If an external fan, you should make sure all your fans and working and clean them with a dust buster with the computer completely powered off.Fan making too noice with my new motherboard?
you probably need better thermal paste.

the mobo in bios can regulate or control the CPU fan speeds.

at idle cpu temps should be no higher than 35C (or no more than 5C above room temp) with a good heatsink/fan.

    How do fan strings work?

My dad tried to show me but I honestly couldn't follow, he installed the fan and it has the typical string hanging down from below it. I understand what the little flip button does by it, it changes the direction where the wind goes, up or down or whatever I get the basic concept but I don't understand how the fan string works.

There's different clicks when i pull it down that makes me think those are like different levels of speed, but i also find that when I pull the fan string completely down different times in a row it also changes the speed, I just don't know what's what. It seems when I pull the string down 3 times in a row, its fastest, 2 medium and 1 is slowest? Sometimes when I pull 1 it turns off though. How do fan strings work?
That string operates a four-position electrical switch that controls the fan's speed. Usually the four positions are in this order:

    OFF - HIGH - MEDIUM - LOW

Each time you pull the string once, it advances to the next position. After LOW, the cycle starts over advancing to OFF on the next pull.

If you pull twice, you will advance it two positions. Pull it three times and it will advance three. Pull it seven times and that is the same as pulling it three times.

The fan speeds up or down quite slowly, so you might need to give it a couple of minutes to see that it is changing speeds after pulling once.

    Hope that helps.

    Another graphics card question?

How do I udjust my fan speed on my 8800 GT OC? I have a 430w power supply, I'm wondering HOW to change the % speed, and what I should set it to for gaming. Thanks.Another graphics card question?
If u want to permanently set to a set speed, use rivatuner.

If u only want to temporarily set it, use ntunes.

If u play Crysis, set it at 40% or higher. 40%, I heard, is the best choice because it's not too loud.

Sapphire graphics card....possible overheating and a few questions.?

Hello, Yeah I was playing mass effect and I think it totally overheated and crashed my computer.

I think my Catalyst control may be off.....It says the temp is 68c. But thats impossible.....for one Its been off alll night and its like 30degrees in here!I doubt a graphics card could get that hot in a matter of a few minutes doing nothing.

Is there any other software the can monitor my graphics card temp? Oh and how to I manually change the speed for the fan? catalyst doesn't seem to have a working one.

ThankyouSapphire graphics card....possible overheating and a few questions.?

Recent Radeon cards run very warm, and it's normal (68C doesn't sound abnormally high).

When a computer starts crashing under the load of running a game, you might also want to think about the power supply. Ask yourself, is the power supply completely adequate for the video card you're running? Could the power supply be wearing out, or failing (like from the additional load of a new video card, or because it's a few years old)?

Sapphire graphics card....possible overheating and a few questions.?
As far as manually setting your fan speeds and monitoring temperatures, you could try SpeedFan (http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php)

Speaking from personal experience I had a Sapphire prior to the card(s) I have now and noticed that it would constantly seem to be running too hot as well. Then one day I heard a loud pop and it smelled strongly of burning electronics. Opened up the case and the fan had actually melted off of the board itself.. might want to be sure the fan is still functioning onboard and potentially aim any other unused system fans that direction.Sapphire graphics card....possible overheating and a few questions.?
The HD3000 and HD4000 series cards run extremely hot. Some run near 75-80c even with proper ventilation. Catalyst has a fan control in their latest release. Make sure it's updated.

How can i check if my fan clutch has gone bad?

I replaced the fan clutch on my truck about a a year ago. Well now the truck seem to be having the same problems as id did before i changed the fan clutch. When i hit about 65 or so i try to git it gas and it seems like if i tapped the brake. Sometimes it also does it while at lower speeds. Like if i'm in second gear and i go to 3500 rpm it also seems like i looses power. So if anyone know how to check for a badd fan clutch please let me know. I know i can take it to a shop but i trying thing that are not going to cost me anything before i decide to take it in to be checked. So any help apresiated thanks. How can i check if my fan clutch has gone bad?
I really doubt your fan clutch would be causing you experience a noticable reduction of power... Sounds to me like something is out of wack internally in the engine.

If the fan clutch is actually bad, it will just stay engaged all the time but thats not going to cause you significant power losses...

If its stumbling when you hammer the gas, then its a spark/fuel mixture problem...

My 1993 BMW 525i has a fan problem - it works only at the highest speed. I am told that there is a resistor which is gone bad and needs to be changed. Can I change this myself? Did anyone here actually fixed this problem by themselves or by a mechanic? How much does it cost?1993 BMW 525i fan works only @ the highest speed.?
Before you change anything you should check the connection to the fan and make sure it doesn't have any corrosion.1993 BMW 525i fan works only @ the highest speed.?
I believe you are not talking of the main radiator fan or the auxiliary electric fan in front of the radiator.

Rather you are talking of the AC/Heater blower fan working only at the high setting.

This is true when the final stage switch (resistor pack) is defective.

It is hidden underneath the right dashboard area, to the left of the glove box, to the right of the blower itself, very near the firewall. It is doable by a DIY who has a little patience and some minimum tools.

I have given instructions for this so many times. Just check my previous answers.

short answer, you will need to go into your bios and look for the fan settings, it depends on your motherboard tho.

Any idea on what type of mobo you have?

    CPU usage fan Not working?
Go into the Bios settings, could be in there.

Also, make sure that you have plugged the CPU fan into the correct socket on the motherboard, if that is wrong then it could be sending information to a different sicket on the motherboard that has nothing plugged into it, where the CPU fan should be plugged into.

If that doesnt work, called the Intel or AMD or whoever made the CPU and call the Motherboard comapny too.

It does not even show the first BIOS screen. No display at all. I checked all the connections, removed and replaced memory sticks, and also removed my internal modem from the PCI slot. But no change, I power it up and only the fans spin up full speed, nothing after that. Any one know about this problem, or have any ideas how to fix this?

Try resetting CMOS either thru CMOS jumper or by removing CMOS battery for about 30 seconds. Do this while PC is unplugged.

Then power ON. If there is a single beep, PC is OK and should display POST. Press Del, F1 or what the prompt indicates. BIOS menu should open. Adjust time and date then load fail safe defaults, save and exit. PC will reboot and should be ok.

How can i change the 'Temp' Numbers To Things Like 'CPU Temp' %26quot;Graphics Card Temp' and 'Hardrive Temp' ?

    Does anyone know how ?

If not, does anyone know which temp1, temp2, and temp3 stand for ?

    Cheers!Speed Fan Temps HELP !!!! SOS !?
Basically the temp 1, 2, %26amp; 3 are in the program as listed below and you are unable to change their names. I was unable to find where each one led to but I did find some information on how you can do that (last paragraph). if you wanted to do more research go to the speedfan home page and check out the support(http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php )

First of all, you have to identify which temperature sensor is which. SpeedFan strictly adheres to available datasheets for each sensor chip. Please remember that hardware monitors are chips that do have some pins (small connectors) which should be connected to some additional hardware (temperature probes, thermistors or thermocouples) in order to be able to read temperatures. Only a few hardware monitor chips do label their connectors with %26quot;CPU%26quot;, %26quot;System%26quot; and the like. Most of them use labels like %26quot;Temp1%26quot;, %26quot;Local%26quot; or %26quot;Remote%26quot;. The hardware manufacturers connect available pins to different temperature sensors basically according to the physical placement of components on the motherboard. This means that the same chip, an ITE IT8712F, for example, might be connected to a sensor diode measuring CPU temperature on Temp2 and, on a different hardware, it might be connected on Temp1. If you have a %26quot;Local%26quot; sensor and a %26quot;Remote%26quot; labeled one, this usually means that %26quot;Local%26quot; is the temperature of the monitor chip itself and %26quot;Remote%26quot; is the temperature read from a %26quot;remote%26quot; probe.

When you have properly identified which temperature sensor is which, try to lower the speed of each fan and look at reported speed and temperatures. If you do not allow SpeedFan to change any fan speed and set all the speeds too low, then SpeedFan won't be able to avoid overheating.

How can I identify my CPU temperature?

To find your CPU's temperature sensor you can leave your system idle for a few minutes, to let temperatures drop, and then go to 100% usage for a while. The temperature that rises faster is the one you're searching for. Other available temperature readings usually come from your sensor chip itself, from the southbridge, the voltage regulator, or even from an additional probe placed under the processor. This additional temperature sensor is not necessarily a duplicate. Some CPUs are not actually able to report the internal temperature from their die. To be able to read their temperatures, an additional external sensor (thermocouple) is used. In such cases, you will see two temperatures referring to the processor. The higher of the two is from the die. As a final note, please remember that not all available temperature sensors are actually connected to something. If you happen to read unusually high or low temps, they are likely to be from a disconnected (unused) temperature sensor

How can i make my pc fans spin faster?

Hi i want to make my fans spin faster. I use speed fan but it dose not read all my case fans, maybe there is a different program or a different way to make them faster. Im open to all options if i have to change the fan it self i will just please be detailed. How can i make my pc fans spin faster?
Ok just adding on the first answer (which is correct)

My advice, just get more fans, or faster fans, or if cooling is a serious issue (i.e. u are overclocking) u might want to invest in a new case and/or a nice aftermarket heatsink/fan combo for ur CPUHow can i make my pc fans spin faster?
Change the fans, if the fans isn't recognized by speedfan, that means it's using the 4-pin molex plug, which is power straight from the power supply, so nothing can read it. Get fans with the 3-pin plug, it has to be plugged into the motherboard, which basically allows the fan to change speed by itself. How can i make my pc fans spin faster?
you'll need to get a new fan or fans. and if the problem is the computer overheating too quickly, its almost definitely a dust problem. so get rid of the dust where the fan is before anything else, and see then if u rly need a new fan.

  • Whenever we turn the light on, there is a popping sound from the breaker box, no breaker trips...why is that?

    I know it has something to do with the ceiling fan that was just installed, but I am not certain of how that would cause a 'ploink!%26quot; sound from the breaker box. If the fan is shut off, there is no sound and the light comes on just fine, but if the fan is on... %26quot;PLOINK!%26quot;

All of the breakers in the box (not counting the dryer and other big guys) are 20 amp, which should be enough for the fan. Whatever makes the noise is not causing any breakers to trip, and so I am at a loss. The sound comes whenever the switch is turned ON or OFF, or whenever the fan speed is changed (including changed to OFF).

What is going on?Whenever we turn the light on, there is a popping sound from the breaker box, no breaker trips...why is that?
The fan has a short in it. It may be in the fan itself not in your wiring. Check your wiring and if there are no breaks or obvious crossed wires I would return the entire unit for a replacement.

Leaving this alone and doing nothing will eventually cause a fire. I would also change out the breaker since it is arcing and not breaking. This indicates it is bad as well.Whenever we turn the light on, there is a popping sound from the breaker box, no breaker trips...why is that?
Sounds like the tab the breaker is in is arcing.Sooner or later its going to burn away unless it is fixed. To check turn off the fan and breaker and pull it out.Check the alluminum bar(it should be silver) if it is blacken or looks rough get it fixed(or use another breaker) ie just follow the smoke :) Whenever we turn the light on, there is a popping sound from the breaker box, no breaker trips...why is that?
Could be a loose neutral (white wire) in the breaker box and you are getting an arc.

How does running the A/C affect gas consumption by a car?

Living in AZ I need to run the A/C almost all the time. I am wondering how the AC works. In my Honda I can circulate the air or not, and se;ect fan speed. Does any of that change the rate of gas consumption? ie. if the AC is on is it running always at full capacity? How does running the A/C affect gas consumption by a car?
It is because the air conditioning system has a motor/compressor of it's own.

The best way for you to see the difference yourself is to put your car in park and look at the rev meter....when you turn on the AC your rev meter will increase RPMS (for example it will go from 1 to between 1 and 2)

its not a big difference but it does increase the amount of energy (gas) required by the engine to produce the power which operates the air conditioning.

All cars vary, for instance i have a 2003 accord, but it is the same in all cars. How does running the A/C affect gas consumption by a car?
It takes more h/p to turn the compressor when the a/c is on fan speed and circulation dont. the compressor is easier to turn when the air is off you might say it free wheels untill the a/c is turned on. listen to your engine speed or watch your tach when you turn on your a/c you can actually feel the engine labor as it starts out turning the compressor. How does running the A/C affect gas consumption by a car?
Changing fan speed or recirculating will not change anything. The a/c compressor adds the same parasitic load to the engine when engaged regardless of fan speed. There will be little difference in fuel mileage windows up ac on or windows down ac off. You will add more wind drag by rolling the windows down. How does running the A/C affect gas consumption by a car?
In the refrigeration cycle, a heat pump transfers heat from a lower temperature heat source into a higher temperature heat sink. Heat would naturally flow in the opposite direction. This is the most common type of air conditioning. A refrigerator works in much the same way, as it pumps the heat out of the interior into the room in which it stands.

This cycle takes advantage of the universal gas law PV = nRT, where P is pressure, V is volume, R is the universal gas constant, T is temperature, and n is the number of moles of gas (1 mole = 6.022脳1023 molecules).

The most common refrigeration cycle uses an electric motor to drive a compressor. In an automobile, the compressor is driven by a belt over a pulley, the belt being driven by the engine's crankshaft (similar to the driving of the pulleys for the alternator, power steering, etc.). Whether in a car or the house, both use electric fan motors for air circulation. Since evaporation occurs when heat is absorbed, and condensation occurs when heat is released, air conditioners are designed to use a compressor to cause pressure changes between two compartments, and actively condense and pump a refrigerant around. A refrigerant is pumped into the cooled compartment (the evaporator coil), where the low pressure and low temperature cause the refrigerant to evaporate into a vapor, taking heat with it. In the other compartment (the condenser), the refrigerant vapor is compressed and forced through another heat exchange coil, condensing into a liquid, rejecting the heat previously absorbed from the cooled space.

    Humidity

Refrigeration air conditioning equipment usually reduces the humidity of the air processed by the system. The relatively cold (below the dewpoint) evaporator coil condenses water vapor from the processed air, (much like an ice cold drink will condense water on the outside of a glass), sending the water to a drain and removing water vapor from the cooled space and lowering the relative humidity. Since humans perspire to provide natural cooling by the evaporation of perspiration from the skin, drier air (up to a point) improves the comfort provided. The comfort air conditioner is designed to create a 40% to 60% relative humidity in the occupied space. In food retailing establishments large open chiller cabinets act as highly effective air dehumidifying units.

Some air conditioning units dry the air without cooling it. They work like a normal air conditioner, except that a heat exchanger is placed between the intake and exhaust. In combination with convection fans they achieve a similar level of comfort as an air cooler in humid tropical climates, but only consume about 1/3 of the electricity. They are also preferred by those who find the draft created by air coolers uncomfortable.

    Refrigerants

%26quot;Freon%26quot; is a trade name for a family of haloalkane refrigerants manufactured by DuPont and other companies. These refrigerants were commonly used due to their superior stability and safety properties. Unfortunately, evidence has accumulated that these chlorine bearing refrigerants reach the upper atmosphere when they escape. The chemistry is poorly understood but general consensus seems to be that CFCs break up in the stratosphere due to UV-radiation, releasing their chlorine atoms. These chlorine atoms act as catalysts in the breakdown of ozone, which does severe damage to the ozone layer that shields the Earth's surface from the strong UV radiation. The chlorine will remain active as a catalyst until and unless it binds with another particle forming a stable molecule. CFC refrigerants in common but receding usage include R-11 and R-12. Newer and more environmentally-safe refrigerants include HCFCs (R-22, used in most homes today) and HFCs (R-134a, used in most cars) have replaced most CFC use. HCFCs in turn are being phased out under the Montreal Protocol and replaced by hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), such as R-410A, which lack chlorine.

    Hope I helped. :)

Can i change my coputers bios?

when i turn it on i press f2 to enter bios. i remember on some of my old computers i can actualy change the clock speed and overclock it that way. and some you can control the fan speed. my laptop is an acer aspire 4720z. and the bios on it is realy limited. so can i change my bios to one that alowes me to overclock and ajust fan speed? how and where? thanksCan i change my coputers bios?

Google a software called %26quot;prime95%26quot;, for all ur overclocking needs.

Your laptop will become hot as hell though ... and heat dissipation in laptops are waaaay worse than PCs so think before overclocking.

How do i adjust fans speed?

My fan s too loud running 100%. I adjust my fan speeds using SpeedFan after i turn on my computer. But I dont want to do it everytime i turn on my computer. How do i change the settings of the speed so that the fan doesnt run 100% when i turn it on.How do i adjust fans speed?
You could go into your BIOS and change it so that your CPU fan uses the SMART FAN capability. It will change the speed of your fan depending on it's temperature. How do i adjust fans speed?
Just buy a quieter fan. I got my quiet fans here:

http://www.endpcnoise.com/cgi-bin/e/indeHow do i adjust fans speed?
Open up your case and pull out the fan. Go to radioshack (or something like that) and buy a potentiometer. Cut the black or red wire (doesnt matter wich) in the middle. Strip the tips of the wire and fix them onto diferent terminals on the potentiometer. Put your fan back on and use the pot to set your desired speed.

Don't let your CPU get too hot tho, or it will be toast.

How to increase cpu fan speed???

i have an intel pentium d processor its gets heated all the time so, anyone knows how to increase the fan speed without touching up any wires???? by some changes in the system settings huh???How to increase cpu fan speed???
You should not make any changes to the cpu fan speed it will harm you computer my suggestion is contact you service enginer for any help might the fan has gone bad or there could be some heat sink probelm on the cpu fan . Since you have asked me how to change the cpu fan settings you can go to the bios settings and change the cpu fan settings ther is option .How to increase cpu fan speed???
Try tu use oils...How to increase cpu fan speed???
you can do so by changing the settings in the BIOS settings.

Would be better if u provide your motherboard configHow to increase cpu fan speed???
You just clean u r fan leaf and please check u r bios settings. How to increase cpu fan speed???
go to the bios settings when the system boots...

in pc health status u can find fan setting options. u could change it from there if your motherboard supports it.

there softwares also available to change it.

but it is advisable not to change it, it won't make your room any cooler.

BTW if your processor is heating up but not burning then it is working fine.........

  • Processor fan running at high speed?

    Hi

My system is 2-1/2 years old. Over the past one month, I hear lot of sound from the processor fan. There is no significant change in the room temperature, but still the fan is running at high speed.

I installed SpeedFan 4.35 to determine the Temperature inside the CPU. The software is showing the following readings.

    Fan1: 4096 RPM

    Ambient : 42C

    Remote1 : 66C

    Remote2 : 40C

    HD0 : 39C

    Temp1 : 22C

Of all the above 5 readings, Ambient is shown in RED color.

I dont understand what Ambient is...

Can you please tell me what Ambient is and how to reduce its temperature.

    Thanks in advance.

Help with my Gateway laptop overheating?

My Gateway NV5214u Refurb off of TigerDirect came in a few days ago.

Lately, I've been noticing that it gets really really hot.

I can't change the fan settings on speed fan because I guess the motherboard isn't supported.

Here are the temperatures right now:

    HD0 - 50C

    Temp1 - 71C

    Temp2 - 66C

    Core - 68C

I don't understand why it's overheating so much, all I have up is Chrome and iTunes.

I have the laptop on a cooling dock right now, but I might buy a higher quality mat later on.

Does this happen to anyone else?

And can I get some advice on how to fix this?Help with my Gateway laptop overheating?
All lap tops get very hot on the bottom due to the compact size and closeness of the electrical components. The temps you listed are not out of operating range and not abnormal.

Using a lap top cooling pad with built in fans and connects by USB will help a lot.Help with my Gateway laptop overheating?
Make sure you aren't putting the laptop on a bed or anything other than a flat surface. Close programs that you don't need. Make sure the comp isn't running more programs than it needs.

According to speedfan, my remote fan is running 55-60 degrees. What is wrong and how can I fix it?

I have a Emachines W3503. I just replaced the power supply last night and did see that all 3 fans are running inside the computer. I also have small fans blowing on the computer to try to cool it down. I have tried taking side panel off and also leaving it on, doesn't make much difference. I have tried changing the speed of the fans with Speedfan, but I think my motherboard is the brand that won't let you. Any suggestions on how to get the computer to cool down and/or what could be wrong? Yes, I have cleaned it out of dust - learned to do that every several months and it used to help, but now the remote fan runs hot temps. Also, according to Speedfan, fans 3 and 4 don't even register, showing 0 rpm. A solution would be GREATLY appreciated!! Thanks!According to speedfan, my remote fan is running 55-60 degrees. What is wrong and how can I fix it?
It might not really be a problem... Is that 55-60 degrees when idle, or under load? What happens to temps when you stress the processor by running a spyware scan (Like Spybot search and destroy) or try decoding a DVD? And what does it read for your CPU temp?

Keep in mind that Speedfan can sometimes get a bad reading. I suspect your motherboard doesn't communicate any info on fans 3 and 4.According to speedfan, my remote fan is running 55-60 degrees. What is wrong and how can I fix it?
Your ambient temperature or room temperature play a big part in this. Hopefully it is under 80 deg. F. Does your Bios setup have a section where you can view your fan speeds and CPU temperatures to compare them with your SpeedFan software results? Not all motherboards are compatible with SpeedFan unless they call out your specific motherboard model. The temperature sensor diodes may not be compatible in that you are not getting an accurate readout.According to speedfan, my remote fan is running 55-60 degrees. What is wrong and how can I fix it?
Speedfan can only control the fans connected to the motherboard and the fans have to be PWM controlled. (Pulse Width Modulation) They will have at least 3 wires for each fan.

Unless you know where the temp sensors are located on your motherboard and what they mean. (Temp 3, internal temp, etc) you don't even know what is running at what temp!

If you really want to know how hot your processor is running I would use Core Temp. That's what I use along with Speedfan.

    http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/

In general, Pentium D processors run hot unless you are using a 3rd party heatsink that has extra cool capabilities with heatpipes. If you are using a %26quot;Stock%26quot; cooler it will run hot...

These processors can run very hot and still work just fine.

They were designed to run at pretty high temps being 147F/ 64.4c for your processor.

How do I get the right computer fan speed?

I want to build my first computer, but I am a little uncertain about how I need to manage fan speed.

How do I make sure that when I get it, the fans only blow full speed when it gets hot? Do I need to buy a fan controller? Do all the fans have thermometers? Are there BIOS settings I need to change? Does the OS I choose make a difference?

Here are all the parts I plan to get so you can get an idea:

    Case (mid-ATX with bundled fans): COOLER MASTER Mystique RC-632S-KKN1-GP;

    Motherboard (ATX, P43): GIGABYTE GA-EP43-DS3LR;

    CPU (2.5GHz): Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300;

    Video card (GeForce 9500 GT): EVGA 512-P3-N954-TR;

    RAM (2GBx2): G.SKILL 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM 1066;

    Hard Drive (640GB): Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD6400AAKS;

    Optical Drive (two, 6-48x DVD/CD RW): LG Black GH20NS15;

    Card reader: Sabrent CRW-UINB;

    Power (500W, ATX12V, 12cm): Rosewill RP500-2;

    CPU Fan (92mm): ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro;

And of course a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and speakers. How do I get the right computer fan speed?
the cpu/heatsink fan and any other fan plugged directly into the motherboard (mobos usually handle 1 addition fan on to of cpu fan) can be controlled through the bios and speeds are set according to temps...if you want them to be. That case comes with 2x 120mm fans..you might only be able to get one of those to work through the bios, and any additional fans probably not. In that case, you will need at least a 2-way fan controller. something like this will do:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asHow do I get the right computer fan speed?
depending on the case, there will be a mount in front of the HDD cage for a fan. This will intake air and move it accross the HDDs. It will then be exhausted out the back along with the rest of the hot air from the case. And yeah, it is a good idea to install one of those. Not needed for optical

The fans will always blow or it will overheat as long as you get the right size you will be fine. How do I get the right computer fan speed?
There are a few choices; for the novice I reccomend a smart fan. It comes with a tempreture probe and automatically speeds up and slows down according to the heat in the system. The link below is to a good place to start. I reccomend the A1357 for your situation.

The other options is to buy a Bay control switch with its own probes and wire all your fans into that and have the built in computer handle it with the setting you choose. But the smart fans will work fine for what your asking. How do I get the right computer fan speed?
i would think the os would make a difference. your hardware seems to be ok. try taking off the side panel and getting the dust out of the system with a can of compressed air or an old shirt or use a vacuum cleaner if you have to (and be careful with the vacuum)

    Hyundai Tiburon 2004 AC problems?

My AC, since I got this car in March, since the temp has gone up I been having more problems with my AC unit. It is starting to shut off after I change the fan speed to 3 and 4. it works OK on 1 and 2 fan speeds. When the AC stops blowing and only the fan is going the AC light on the control panel goes off. Same thing happens when the recirculate is on as well.

I been looking online and everyone keeps saying that it is either the Heating/AC control panel that is in the car. Others say it is the entire electrical system needs to be replaced.

What do you think? If you have had this done how much did it cost?

    NVIDIA SLI: Disabled

Idle GPU Temperatue: 50.0 Degree C

    Fan Speed: 40%

Now the question is....under the given information.....is the temperature and fan speed gud?....and wat is the danger temperature i must look out for?....how do i treat that?.....how to change the fan speed....in windows 7 ?Graphic card enquiry.....?
Well, one way to change the Fan Speed would be to use http://www.evga.com/precision/ EVGA Precision. Of course, you need to be a member at EVGA.com. But once you are, you download it, and install it, and uncheck the Auto next to the Fan speed, and you increase the Fan speed.

Is an idle speed of 50C good? Sure... I mean, I idle at 47c with a fan speed at 30% and I idle at 44C at 70% with my EVGA 9800 GT. However, I'm running a clock speed of 600mhz, memory at 900mhz, and a shader clock of 1500mhz.... so your temp of 50c at 40% fan is a bit high for what would be considered an underclock.

But who knows what the room environment is you are running in. I mean, my system has an excellent dual 120mm cooling fan system, with a 120mm vertical cooling tower on my CPU that keeps air moving VERY well through my computer (God I love my Tuniq Tower Cooler) and the room I'm in gets slightly warm from the computers... you could be sweating where your computer is, or your tower cooling might not be all that great.

Anything higher than 75C and you should be worried.

Most nVidia cards vent into the case If you GPU is overheating, your CPU may also be overheating. You will need to clear the area around your tower for better airflow through and around the case. You may need to install intake and vent fans as well.

Alternatively, if you have over clocked the GPU, de-clock it.

Personally, I'd look at investing in another G-card, probably an 8600 if you're on a budget, or an 8800 if you have some cash to blow.

i would recommend getting official microsoft cables but thats most likely not the problem. make sure everything is plugged in all the way (including tv xbox av cables ect). also if the cables are not plugged directly into the tv (i.e. through vcr, cable receiver, av adapter of any kind) there could be a compatability problem. if tightening the cables and plugging av directly into tv do not help the problem is either in the power outlet the xbox the tv or the cables.

Since the computer is an HP you are very restricted to what you can do in the BIOS. You can't usually change the fan speed on HP other stock PCs.

Computer problems, some real help would be nice,?

Ok, sweet and simple, my computer got some hardware malfunctions after I had it repaired. When I had it repaired I bought a new motherboard, and re-installed Windows XP.

Now these are the problems that come up:

    1. My computer CPU Fan is running insane, at roughly 6000+ RPM, it NEVER ran like that, it ran at around 1000-2000 Max. Ive tried freeware programs to change the speed (Speed Fan or instance) But it does nothing. If someone could give me directions on how to manually change the fan speed from my System controls that would be really appreciated, this is my biggest problem.

    2. Starting up my system I get a black screen telling me: %26quot;Highlight the selected choice of operating system%26quot; And there are 3 choices, Windows XP Home Edition, another Windows XP Home Edition, and Windows Recovery Console. If someone could tell me how to get rid of this screen, or better yet, tell me how to delete the other choices would be grand.

    3. Final problem, while im running Windows, I get a message from Windows Installer, it pops up continuously, and disapears in half a milisecond. NO this does not have anything to do with software failing to install, so don't even write me that crap, this is something else, its just a small tab labeled: Windows Installer, and like I said it pops in and out rapidly, this makes it almost impossible for me to play fullscreen games, seeing as how my screen in minimized every second for a stupid message that disapears in and out.

I wonder if this community has some help in it actually, I would like an answer besides buy something, or a link to a website that wont help me. I need to know how to MANUALLY fix these things. Its like the 3rd time ive asked this question, no one helps me.Computer problems, some real help would be nice,?

so for when u start ur computer u see 3 booting options. this is caused when u are trying to make a repair or do an upgrade on ur operating system and also think in one way or the other u have run a recovery console that u did not finish.which is suppose to be done properly. so i advice if u are are good with formating do as if u want to format as u will see an option that will make u view ur partion delete the partrion where these option are and leave the one u normally use.

with the compound problems you describe I suggest you take it back to whoever did the repair %26amp; installed the motherboard. It sounds as though they may have buggered up something when doing the repair.Hopefully they warrantee their workComputer problems, some real help would be nice,?
Trouble is, it seems only a handful of people here are super with computers and then there's a slightly larger group with a reasonable idea and lots who know not much. (I don't belong to the first group. ;-D )

Personally, I'd take this one to a decent computer forum and if it wasn't responded to in a couple of days or so, bump it back up. Try one of these:

    http://forums.majorgeeks.com

    http://bleepingcomputer.com/forums

    http://daniweb.com

Major Geeks I go to quite often and they have different forums for different things, such as a Hardware forum, Software, Malware, etc. I think the others do as well. I suggest either picking which seems the most sensible problem and putting the whole story in there or posting each problem in the appropriate spot and mentioning in each post that this is one of x problems you have posted and the others are in blah and blah forums. Then people can look at everything in case any turn out to be related.

Only suggestions I have are have you remembered to take the CD out of the drive? Just wondering if that's causing your boot message. Otherwise it might be the bootstrap(?) that needs editing because it's ended up with more entries than it should have. I don't know how to fix that but dualboot or dual boot is a key word/phrase for that. Or you may have actually installed Windows twice - have you checked that isn't the case? They would be on different partitions.

The fan speed might be something you can deal with in BIOS Setup - you certainly have a new BIOS if you have a new motherboard so try getting in there and looking for performance and monitoring type entries. BIOS is usually entered with F1, F2, F10 or F12 or Del. (It won't be F8 - that's reserved for Windows boot options.) If you don't see a message on screen about entering Setup as the computer starts to boot but do see a manufacturer logo, try the Esc key to see the information. Are you sure that this isn't normal for the fan? Did you get a new fan when you got the motherboard or is it the old one?

To solve the popping up install window, I can only suggest that you try this:

-- Click on Start --%26gt; Run.

-- In the text box, type %26quot;sfc /scannow%26quot; without the quotes and with only one space which is between the c and the / character and 2 letter N's:

    sfc /scannow

    -- Click OK.

This will take anywhere from a few minutes to over an hour to run and might require the Windows CD. It's checking the system files are all as they should be and replacing any that need it.

Anyway, a good forum will be better than trying to get that lot solved here, I think. Good luck!Computer problems, some real help would be nice,?
Lets see what we can do... I spoke to one of my techs (Manitou), and he has some ideas that *may* be able to help you.

    1) Fan Speed

    a) You plugged the wrong voltage connector into the fan so the motor is receiving more juice than it should. This would also be why the attempts to control the fan with software aren't working...the software is looking at the wrong connector.

    b) Try looking into the BIOS to see if there is an issue there, or something that will allow you to control fan speed. BE CAREFUL! Save your original settings before changing them

    c) The CPU may be running obscenely hot. Was the thermal compound applied properly between the CPU and heatsink?

    2) Multiple OSs

Congratulations...when you re-installed Windows, you installed s SECOND copy of XP. You're now dual booting. To get around this, you'll have to either remove (uninstall) one version, or simply format and re-install again. This will take care of both issues. I am presuming that you only have one HDD...

    3) Windows Installer...

Sorry, it's annoying (personal experience). We had the same thing happen on our work PC after they forced some updates about 12-18 months back. They eventually had to physically roll-back some drivers and re-install them before it would stop. However, with a touch of luck...taking the more severe option in two (above) should solve this issue as well. If it doesn't, try posting the question on the Microslut website forums.

    Good Luck!

    Speed Fan/ Almico.com?

I downloaded speed fan onto my Acer Laptop after installing a new fan.

Now my laptop is a doorstop.

I didn't change any values in speed fan and the laptop worked fine until I turned it off.

Now I can't even boot, I can't use the restore disks that came with the laptops. I can't do anything.

I looked up the owner of the site using internic to get a phone number to try and talk to someone to get help.

The person who answers the phone insisits I have a wrong number. They even had some girl call me back screaming at me to and I quote %26quot;quit wiggin out.%26quot; All I wanted was some help.

I think I will be filing suit against them for this. This laptop has all my business information on it and I will be loosing ALOT of money thanks to that program.

Anyway, does anyone know how I can get rid of this using the old dos command promts. I can't get to windows. Everytime I get to the log in screen the laptop shuts off.

Its not he power cord, its not he fan. That program is acting like a virus.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

Also if there are any lawyers that read this please contact me. I am very very interested in following through and sueing their pants off.

You cant reck peoples computers then call them and tell them to quit %26quot;wiggin out%26quot; like some little gangster.

    Thanks in advance.

    Speed Fan/ Almico.com?
You cannot blame them because they have a disclaimer on the site and install saying %26quot;We are not responsible for any actions that this program persues%26quot; etc. So don't go messing up their lives because you screwed up.

A program like this taking down a laptop is almost too rare to be anyone's fault. This proves that ANY program can be at fault so it is NOTHING to be admissable in court.

This program is safe, I've used it for years and it won't do something like that. If your BIOS has a checksum error this could be it but it is your laptop's reason why it crashed itself.

The program does nothing. Worst you'll do is spend the same amount of money on lawyers then buying a new laptop!!!!

They are 100% safe from being sued for obvious reasons. Get a life.

If you wrote a useful program and it happened to screw up ONE idiot's laptop, would you want to be sued for arbitrous reasons?

You installing a new fan would be the obvious fault over a non destructive program. Stop blaming others because you're not even able to do it yourself.Speed Fan/ Almico.com?
quit wiggin out!!!! just replace the old fan and see if that changes anything, the fan starts up by electrical means not by a program so it cannot be something the software is doing, ,the fan is fed 12v from the psu or battery interface with protection circuits , if the fan you fittted draws too much power it will shut down the system,if it runs to slow it will overheat and shut down the system if your lucky, Speed Fan/ Almico.com?
It sounds more like a hardware problem then a software problem. Speedfan does not run as a service during boot as far as I know. It sounds like something may be overheating or there is a problem with the motherboard, if your computer shuts off during a system restore disk session.

Did you use ESD protection? ESD protection is protecting against electrostatic discharge into the components of a motherboard. Human electrostatic discharge can fry a motherboard with no visible symptoms other then reboots or no response at all. Protection would be touching metal before touching sensitive parts or wearing an anti-static wrist strap.Speed Fan/ Almico.com?
SpeedFan is famous. Nothing to do with virus or spyware. It's a free program and it's amazing that you have a chance to download and use it for free.

Perhaps you could focus on debugging your issue but you won't get a lot of help from tech people by being ungrateful for such a generous service.

Speedfan does install a device driver and that could be the issue here. Most liekly you can get your Windows working fine again but it would probably be helpful if you edited you question to show some respect for a program that has helped so many people.

you can try purchasing a fan controller or you really want to get fancy, try entering the system bios and see if there are any options there, you can also try downloading speedfan @ http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php it kind of depends if you have a 3pin fan connector or a 4pin molex, the bios controller and software will only work if it is plugged in via 3pin, if its a molex, the fan is sure to run full speed all the time unless it has a 3pin connector with a single cable (control channel). How can i adjust the fan speed on a lenovo desktop pc.?
Clean windows registry can speed up the computer.

Over time, you install new programs, uninstalled unimportant programs, update software's, install new devices,

download files from the web, etcetera, hence embarking all records in the registry system.

This is normal, but it is not wise to leave it untouched.

Once in a while, you have to check and remove files that are no longer in use to maintain the speed of your PC.

I have a Lennox central air/heat unit, Curious about fan speeds and changing them?

I am a very capable person( so dont give me the %26quot;call a experienced hvac tech%26quot; answers here.) I have a few squirrel cage fans for when I paint and do drywall, and understand that different windings connected to the different wires and hooking them up accordingly will change the speeds. Doing so on one that is just hooked up to a power cord is simple to see and understand, BUT, in my Lennox, all the wires are connected to control(looks like a relay) except a blue one, and I know the black is the high speed.

HOW do I make sure it is set to run on the High speed, as Im not sure of the routing and what takes place in this control.

Also I have read that some?most? unit will manipulate the speeds themselves without intervention. I am certain mine only runs at one speed, and it is currently not enough air volume to majke it to the upstairs(second floor) vents.

And i have tried to regulate the 1st floor vents by closing them slightly and it doesnt work.

Need more air!I have a Lennox central air/heat unit, Curious about fan speeds and changing them?

Try installing booster fans in the ductwork that feeds the upstairs....wire them to turn on with the furnace blower. Check all duct joints if possible for air loss/gaps and tape them with aluminum tape. Check with a Lennox dealer with serial and model numbers to see if your unit is a variable speed or not.

Ceiling fan changed direction on its own & running half power?

my ceiling fan recently began making noise, slowed to a stop, and started running backwards. I flipped the switch on the fan to make it change directions again so it's still pushing air down. And what would cause it to suddenly change direction.. a change in polarity.. if so how? Thanks!Ceiling fan changed direction on its own %26amp; running half power?

  • How do I wire a 9-wire reversible ceiling fan with light?

I don't have the directions to wire my ceiling fan. There are 9 wires altogether. 1 is the bare, stiff copper ground wire. 3 more are stiff copper wires that are coated Red, White and Black. The remaining 5 wires are more flexible, non-copper wires and are coated Light Green, Dark Green, Blue, Black and White. There is nothing on the fan that says who manufactured it. Can anyone tell me what wires get connected together? This is a reversible fan with 5 blades and 3 lights. There are 2 pull chains: 1 turns the lights on or off. The other chain changes the fan speed. There is a switch on the fan that changes the fan direction. There are 2 switches on the wall, 1 to control the lights and 1 to control the fan. Any help is MUCH, MUCH appreciated. Its been near 100 degrees for the last week! How do I wire a 9-wire reversible ceiling fan with light?
ok here we go. bare wire is your ground. in the box twist the 2 bare wires together. now all your green wires get twisted together. wire nut them to the bare ones. grounds are done. red wire goes to one switch on the wall. the black goes to the other. both are hot wires. now twist all the white wires together. wire nut them. ok twist all the blue and black wires together. on the light fixture. then wire nut them to the red wire. the fan motor is wired black to black. wire nut them. but make sure you turn off the breaker not just the switch

Probably a bad switch in the fan that the chain connects to. They can be replaced. There are usually two chains connected to switches - one of them for the light, the other for the fan.Need help with a ceiling fan/light that has a chain to turn it on and off.?
Depending on what brand of fixture you have you should have a separate pull cord (chain) for the lights and one for the fan. Unless you have a single speed fan and the light is on when the fan is on (doubtful)

Look in your breaker box, find the breaker for the fixture and turn it off. Many times your able to remove the cover on the bottom of the fan/light which in turn allows access to the wiring for the lights/fan and the switch's that controls them. This is done by a single nut or a few small screws on the sides. Sometime you may need to remove the light assembly to gain access. ( You shouldn't have to disconnect the entire light assembly wiring; maybe just 1 wire)

Once you have done this you will be able to see the switch that controls the fan and a separate on that controls the lights.

Remove the corresponding switch by unscrewing the little thin washer looking nut on the neck of the switch remembering which wire connects to which wire.

Take it to the hardware store and match it up with another switch. Ask for help to assure you get the correct switch. You may want to have the brand/model of fixture the switch is from.

Reassemble in reverse order making sure the wire nuts are all tight. Turn breaker back on and you should be good.

If not I haven't a clue but that's how I have fixed all of the fans that have had this issue.Need help with a ceiling fan/light that has a chain to turn it on and off.?
    1. You have to start by uninstalling the lights.

    2. Once the lights are uninstalled, set them aside and take off the cover for the fan.

    3. Take off the fan cover and you should see a little switch, take it off and take it to the hardware store and get a new one. Make sure the chain is free and is not the real problem.

    4. reinstall the switch and you should be back in business.

    5. If the fan doesn't work from a light switch, kill the power at the box. Treat all wires if they were alive, don't try to be a hero with power.Need help with a ceiling fan/light that has a chain to turn it on and off.?

You can change the switch connector plug to three prong. Or you can keep the switch the way it is and put a speed control switch in line to control the speed. Although either can cause the car to overheat if the fan is not spinning fast enough like the manufacturer engineered it to be.

Just put the speed switch in line with the positive feed to the switch. That way the car will control when the fan kicks in, and you can control its speed.

How can i stop my graphics card from overworking?

i have had this issue for some time now and in only one game, I have tried driver updates and game updates but nothing fixes it. the problem is as follows.

only in the original Farcry, my computer can push an average of about 200 FPS.. this is an issue because the graphics card seems to always be pushing itself to its full potential and I just want a 60 frames per second. when i play for long periods of time my card eventually overheats and then i get all kinds of red artifacts on my screen and my computer crashes and i am forced to reboot.

if you have any suggestions on how i can limit what my graphics card can push out without underclocking it because i have tried this and it did not fix it..

I have tried original drivers, new drivers, underclocking the VGA card so that temps would decrease, manually changed fan speed to a constant 100% on the VGA card to keep the card ad a lower temperature, reducing my cpu speed to the stock 2.4ghz, replaced PSU... nothing seems to work and i looked on google and everyone asks why i would want to reduce my frames per second, they never got the point.... so any help is apreciated lol. and sorry for the long question. i just like to provide all the info i can upfront

You definitely want to clean all the dust in the computer, especially in the heat sink area. Clogged up dust can really overheat your computer and ruin the ventilation. If your computer tower has room, installing more fans may help. Your video card's fan may also be faulty, so maybe it's time to look for an upgrade. :DAfter all this time I found out why my graphics has been bad but how do I fix it?

as long as the hot wire is connected to the right one it really doesn't matter. But if you cut the wires (with the power off) that go to the switch and leave a small piece dangling from the wire nut, you can identify what wire goes to which by comparing the two switches. Antec 900 PC Case - How do I change the speed settings on the fans?

I read on the box that the case has 3 speed settings for the fans, but I can't figure out how to change the setting. The 2 fans at the front aren't even moving. Can it be accessed through software or is it an internal switch (and if so, where is the switch)?

Thanks.Antec 900 PC Case - How do I change the speed settings on the fans?
The Antec %26quot;Tricool%26quot; case fans each have a 3-way switch at the end of a wire that's inside the case and extends from the side of the fan housing. It should be dangling about in there somewhere. It's a tiny little square thing with a tiny little switch on it you can set to low, medium, or high.

I keep mine on low and use the Cool %26amp; Quiet program, after enabling it in BIOS, to control the CPU fan, though the Tricool fans aren't equipped to connect to the mobo so I just ordered two new fans to replace them, with the three necessary wires for the mobo to control fan speed.

The tricools only have 2 wires and thus, even with an adapter to plug into the mobo plugs, it won't be able to read them or control speed. You'll have to do it manually, which goes to show how out of touch Antec cases are.Antec 900 PC Case - How do I change the speed settings on the fans?

Help with my computer fan. It's too loud.?

So I've had this computer (eMachines W3619) for about 2-3 years. Whenever I try to run big programs like World of Warcraft, the fan is annoyingly loud. I've dealt with it. Recently I installed the beta for Windows 7 and still have had the same loud fan problems as before. I also opted to use Windows Sidebar in lieu of Windows Explorer for the looks of it and in my experience it's more memory efficient. Yesterday, when I went to run World of Warcraft, my fan was being as quiet as it is when I'm not doing anything for about the first 10 minutes of the program running. Then it went back to being loud as usual. Today, I woke my computer from standby mode, and the fan was being loud, and continued to be loud. Usually it's loud in a short burst, then quiets down again. Now no matter what I do, I can't get it to be quiet again. I'm under the assumption that the fan doesn't work based on temp readings, but on how much memory is being used. The fans are clean, and the air coming out of the vent is cooler than room temperature. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Is the normal operation? Is there a way I can fix this? I'd appreciate your help.

Oh, and I've already tried Speedfan. The program does not give me accurate readings, and will not let me change my fan speed. Thank you for reading. :)Help with my computer fan. It%26039;s too loud.?

tyHow to change speed on 8600GT?
I wouldn't worry, my AMD Turion 64 X2 runs at 80C a lot of the time and it has only made little ticking noises a few times. In F, it gets up to around 170-180 when playing a processor-intensive 3D game and idles at around 160F. Upon bootup, it is around 130FHow to change speed on 8600GT?
Hi. I would consider liquid cooling rather than a speed reduction. http://pcpowerzone.com/koolance.html Or a better passive system. http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/253182

How to reassign RAM to my graphics card.?

I have a Nvidia 8300 GS 128mb dedicated memory, and according to my Nvidia Control Panel I can share 1279mb of shared memory (not a typo). Windows Vista Premium only needs at most 2GB and that 1GB, it's just sitting there. I wanna know how to assign the RAM and I checked my BIOS for Graphics Apertexture and it's not there as I use an HP BIOS and it doesn't let me do basically anything from change fan speed (for overclocking) or change Graphics Apertexture. How to reassign RAM to my graphics card.?
The only way I know how to reallocate memory is through the BIOS. Generally, in most laptop and esktop PC's there's a menu option/setting for this function.

Also, simply because Vista requires 1GB of memory, and your PC has 2GB of memory, it doesn't mean the memory is just %26quot;sitting there%26quot;. Believe me! it's being used. Vista is a memory hog.

I recommend upgrading the graphics card, and not reallocating memory from within the BIOS.

  • Does the fan on a new computer typically change speeds quickly and constantly?

I have an HP Media Center. This is the first %26quot;modern%26quot; computer I've had since all my decade computers quit on me. The fan seems to go faster when I'm doing picture editing, movie editing, and during those times, it goes, up, down, up down, like constantly. Is this how the new fans work?Does the fan on a new computer typically change speeds quickly and constantly?
That is normal. As you are compliling a movie it uses the processer quite a bit and the processer makes a lot of heat so the fan speeds up as the processer gets hotter and slows down as the fan cools it off. When you are not doing something that uses the processer alot, then the fan should not keep speed up and down and if it does then there is proably lots of dust in the vents of the computer's case or in the fan or case itself, blw it out with canned air.Does the fan on a new computer typically change speeds quickly and constantly?
Normally there is a temperature controller that varies the fan speed as needed. During times when processing may be high such as video editing, the fan speed may also be high.Does the fan on a new computer typically change speeds quickly and constantly?
Yes it does. The speed is automatically controlled to save battery power. If more or less cooling is needed (which depends on the load on computer components, such as CPU, RAM and hard-disk), the system changes the speed of the fan. So, it's normal.Does the fan on a new computer typically change speeds quickly and constantly?
Yes, today's modern computers can sense heat increases inside your CPU and increase the speed of the fan as needed. That is normal. If it is CONSTANTLY changing, every few seconds, I'm not sure.

How to change my Dell's Fan Speed ?

    I have a Dell Inspiron 531

    AMD Athlon x2 5000+ @ 2.66GHZ

    Asus Motherboared

    1GB Ram (Kiingston)

nVidia GeForce 6100 nForce 430 (WDDM)

I just basically need somesort of software (programme) which will adjust my fan speeds to what i want.

Thank YouHow to change my Dell%26039;s Fan Speed ?
Fit your own fan and then wire it up to a front based fan-controller. Then download Speed Fan so that it'll tell when and how you should adjust your fan speed:

I've done this with resistors. You can use some kind of potentiometers as well. Just do a search for computer fans and resistors to find the right size for the speeds you need. The motherboard software (Bios) may have some software to run the fans in %26quot;quiet mode%26quot;, if not, you'll probably have to do the above to quite them down. How to change my Dell%26039;s Fan Speed ?
The fan speed depends how many power did he use

so if you know about electricity

try adding some power in fan

if you want do decrease, try lowering the power of the fan i know there's no switch on it so you have to open the fan and fix manuallyHow to change my Dell%26039;s Fan Speed ?
Why do you want to screw your computer just for fun and experience. Being a Dell Support techncian I can tell you that this option is not available on this computer. It can be done on XPS 630iHow to change my Dell%26039;s Fan Speed ?

How to save waste electricity for ceiling fans and CFLs?Equipments must not change the speed and brightness?

How to save waste electricity for ceiling fans and CFLs?Equipments must not change the speed and brightness of the appliances,so dimmer and regulators items that control the speed and brightness are items that I am not looking for.How to save waste electricity for ceiling fans and CFLs?Equipments must not change the speed and brightness?
If you are already using ceiling fans and CFLs, then you are already saving electricity. A ceiling fan literally costs you pennies per month, yet can make a room feel about 5 degrees cooler. So, with your ceiling fan on, you can set your air conditioner up a few degrees -- and that is where you truly save money. One thing to consider with ceiling fans is that the larger they are, the more efficient they are. So a 36%26quot; ceiling fan may have to be on medium speed to move air in a living room, but a 54%26quot; ceiling fan could run on low and provide the same level of comfort using less wattage. Have a really big living room? Then you may want to consider a monster 72%26quot; ceiling fan that has a very low speed setting.

The only thought I have regarding CFLs: if you keep your lights on a lot, you can probably use lower wattage bulbs. There are 60W equivalent CFLs that are 7W, 9W, 11W, and 13W -- the main difference being how bright they are for the first several seconds. The 7W bulbs take a long 30 seconds to reach full brighness, but if you have them on for hours, then they will save you almost 50% compared to 13W bulbs. But if you switch your lights off a heck of a lot, you maybe better getting the 13W which will be almost full brightness the second they turn on.

Now, if you have a large and old house, you might be able to save some money by installing a whole-house power %26quot;conditioner,%26quot; but the initial cost of installing these is usually so high that it is not worth it to the average home owner. Again, in a large old house, it could save you %26quot;up to%26quot; 40% on your electrical bills, though the average savings is probably closer to 10%-15%, so the %26quot;payback%26quot; on these devices could be as long as the mortgage on the house. The larger and older the building, the greater potential for savings. The additional advantage to this is that the %26quot;conditioned%26quot; electricity is much easier on lights and appliances, so everything in your house -- from the cheapest light bulbs to your computer to your refrigerator -- should last longer. How to save waste electricity for ceiling fans and CFLs?Equipments must not change the speed and brightness?
Perhaps you could tell us what you ARE looking for, instead of telling us what you are not looking for?

What do you mean by waste electricity? Electric power is either used, in which case it is no longer electricity, or it is not used, in which case, that is less power the power plant has to generate.

Do you mean conserve electricity? You can do this by many ways. One is using CFL lights. Another is by turning off appliances not in use. Another is using appliances with good efficiency. Another is to set the thermostats of appliances to a setting that uses the least power.

Another is better insulation, keeping doors and windows closed where that would save power. Unplug appliances not being used where that cuts power use.

There are other ways, depending on your applicances and other factors.

.How to save waste electricity for ceiling fans and CFLs?Equipments must not change the speed and brightness?
As stated by one answerer, the fact that a fan and CFL's are already being used means you've already captured a good share of the efficiency available.

I need to take issue with another answerer. The 'start up' time of a CFL has no relationship whatsoever to the wattage, its a function of the ballast type and quality control. Older, magnetic ballasted CFL's had the blink-blink-very dim-dim-not so dim-on warm up issues.

This is much less prevalent with newer lamps and purchasing quality lamps from a major manufacturer rather than el-cheapo multi packs should make it a non-issue.

Also, and more importantly, Power 'conditioners' do not save electricity. They are designed to remove spikes and noise, not reduce energy use. http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-a-power-

    In fact:

Most electrical utilities offer rebates for energy efficient equipment and not a single one in the US will pay for the claimed energy savings from a device like this!

Most have a regulatory requirement to do conservation, so if they won't pay for it, that ought to tell you how much truth is in the claims. How to save waste electricity for ceiling fans and CFLs?Equipments must not change the speed and brightness?
As in the case of ceiling fans you can use electronic regulators.
