E6600 Overclocking Terror!?

hello, i would like to tell you whats going on here and pray for the answer ive been looking for. first of all thank you for the help everyone.

i have a E6600 and i have OCed it @2.85GHz so far. The means my FSB is at 316mhz. whenever i push further, the system hangs and i have to reduce the overclock. i put my vcore to 50mv and still no luck so i tried 100mv. that is around 1.45v i think but still no luck. i put it back to 50mv and tried increasing fsb voltage to 1.3 and 1.4v but still no luck. i even increased memory Voltage to around from 1.8v to 1.86v. i changed another MB setting to higher voltage too but still it hung. the only option left is to put my memory running at 667mhz and see if that does anything and it might not lol.

my motherboard, as reccomended by 9 people on the overcling forum (this site) is a ASUS P5KPL-AM and the CPU as you know is a E6600. Full load speeds right now are 52 degrees with a synche mini ninja cooler.

here is the rig below. i called it the Crysis E66-4800. cool name lol!!

thank you so much for the help. i realy hope someone knows how to get that fsb even 5mhz higher!!!!!! lol.E6600 Overclocking Terror!?
Overclockers or PC enthusiasts who attempt to increase their system's performance by raising bus speeds and increasing their CPU speed beyond the figures at which it was sold and designed to run. Also quite frequently need to raise the voltage of these deviced, since they are pushing them harder, which also generates more heat. Overclocking no longer makes the performance difference it use to. It will also void your CPU warrenty, could cause complete system failure requiring component replacement, and can cause random system instability. for that reason, many of the frequency and voltage settings offered in this part of the BIOS should be left alone or set to Auto. But if you want to adjust them click on the Advanced tab on the BIOS screen.Be sure set the CPU external frequency (MHZ) in accordance with the specifications of your processor. CPU frequency multiple setting :Auto CPU frequency multiple:be sure to set in accordance with the specifications of your processor.Asus should have called this the CPU multiplier.System Performance :Optimal. CPU Interface : Optimal. Memory frequency:by SPD, most memory-chip manufacturers include a Serial Presence Detect (SPD) Chip, wich reports to the Computer's BIOS. The Size, Data,Width, Speed and voltage of the installed memory. These settings are determined by the manufacturer to ensure maximum performance and reliability,Sp SPD is considered a safe, recomended setting.By adjusting these settings yourself you may be able to squeeze more performance out of your system. But if your not careful you might cause your system to crash, not boot properly or not boot at all. Memory Timings:Optimal , FSB spread spectrum:Disabled.this feature helps systems pass European electromagnetic interferance (EMI) test it accomplishes this by constantly varying, ever so slightly, the frequency of the front side bus (FSB) Be warned that enabling this feature with large values can result in internet connection disruption as well as stability problems if you overclock your system. AGP Spread Spectrum:Disabled the discription above applies here as well, except that this is for modulating the frequency of the Advanced Graphics Port (AGP) interface.CPU VCore setting: Auto. Be sure to set this in accordance with the core voltage requirments of your processor. Graphics Aperture Size: 64 MB or 128 MB this feature controls the size of the Graphics Address RelocationTable(GART) and the amount of memory address space used for AGP memory addresses.Regardless of how much on-board memory a system's video card has, A setting of 64MB or 128MB is recomended. This will allow the video card to remain optimized in the event an application requires more texture storage, while simultaniously limiting the GART to a reasonable size.AGP frequency :AUTO . System BIOS Cacheable:Disabled you might be under the impression that all catch is good but thats not true. This feature can cause problems such as system crashes if a program tries to write to the BIOS area being catched. This is a great feature to enable if your still using DOS.Video RAM Catchable:Disabled this allows video ram to be copied directly to your L2 cache wich is considerably faster to access than ROM.However Windows is much more advanced the DOS . Windows rearely uses this ROM because the L2 cache is quite limited in size, it is recomended you let Windows use the L2 cache for enhancing the efficiency of othe tasks. DDR Referance Voltage:2.6 v this setting controls the voltage of the double-data rate (DDR) memory in your system.AGP VDDQ Voltage: 1.5. VDDQ is an enginering term meaning voltage between drain and common for Data Quad Band. In English this refers to how much voltage should be supplied to the Video Card. AGP 8X Support: enable this if the system video card supports 8X AGP speeds. You must install the VIA 4- in-1 drivers to take advantage of this feature on VIA-Based Motherboards. AGP Fast Write Capability:Enabled is recomended this feature when enabled, allows the AGP device, increasing performance by as much as 10 % However some games and PCI cards may experiance problems with this setting enabled. It is recomended that you experimant with this setting to determin what works best for your PC. Good luck i hope this information will help to resolve your problems.

Again 2002 Chevy Venture LT : /?

Well I have changed the thermostat, flushed the radiator, replaced the intake gaskets with a complete kit; upper and lower which was a very costly repair. Still the temp gauge will go about 3/4 of the way up. This usually happens if the van is idiling, or up hill at slow speeds I can get the gauge to go down rather fast by running my heater.. other than that it stays well below the 1/2 mark. Again I have done some reasearch here and I am praying that it is not a head gasket :( BUT at the same time, with a little reading it seems common that the fans wont kick on till the temp gauge gets pretty high . I just got the thing, havent even had it for 2 months yet and under 100,000 miles and I have already put $1000 worth of repairs on it. GM did a great job on the gas mileage, car like ride and room in this thing but the coolant system is unreal. Sooo any ideas as to how I can check these fans to make sure they are kicking on? After 3250.00 purchuse plus 1000.00 in repairs moneys starting to run a little dry : /Again 2002 Chevy Venture LT : /?
it's real easy to check. start the vehicle open the hood and watch the fan, if it comes on than it is working, one thing i don't understand though, is the vehicle overheating? It doesn't sound like it is, when the temp goes up, what is the temp range? does it match your thermostat? if you have a 200 degree thermostat than that is when it should open3/4 of the way up doesn't tell me anything, if 3/4 the way up is around190-210 degrees it sounds like it is running normal. If you have 2 fans they should come on when the temp meets the thermostat temp rating.Again 2002 Chevy Venture LT : /?
coolin g fans won't come on till the engine reaches 212-223 degrees, depending on the programming in ecm. if it's not overheating or losing coolant than there's no problemAgain 2002 Chevy Venture LT : /?
cooling fans only kick on under 35 mph make sure they are kicking on and off right if they are not check fan relay to check head gasket take belt off open radiator cap start engine look for air bubbles in coolant don't run long like this or other damage will happen

    Surround Sound System

    1 TB External firewire harddrive

    Logitech g5 gaming mouse

    680 watt Avevia power supply

Primarily this computer will be used for games, I do not care to run them on the highest settings just being able to play the game and the game looking decent is enough for me, but this will also be for school and minor video editing but nothing to extensive so judge my build on those features, also do only suggest changes to my build that will not increase my total cost cause I have pretty much pushed my limit on spending, however if it is around 5 or 10 dollars more and the product is that much better than please suggest it. I want to order off of newegg as I get their shipments around 2 days and I need to order and have this build within the next week. Thanks and here it is:

And as long as it has the option for 4 internal hardddrives and atleast 2 cd drives then it is all good)

Thanks, you do not have to make suggestions on all. Take a good look and tell me what you think this system will run in terms of current games like COD 4 or 5, Crysis, and any others that you can think of and also how what areas I could reduce costs)Make my PC build better?
Ok, let's start with your CPU. By FAR a better value for your money is the Phenom II x3 720 BE. A terrific compromise between quad and dual core, and because it's a Black Edition, you can quite easily overclock it just by turning up the clock speed in your BIOS when you want to squeeze more performance out of your CPU.

And on the subject of Penom II, you may as well make a DDR3 system. Value DDR3 kits are low enough in price to be worth going with the newer technology which is supported by AM3 sockets.

    CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as

    Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as

And since you'll be needing some DDR3 Memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as

I've chosen the PNY simply because of the price and the DDR3 speed. In the grand scheme of things, memory is memory is memory, and your money is better spent elsewhere, if at all.

Now, you've picked a HD4850 card, but you have a 1080p monitor (or TV, doesn't matter), so from personal experience, you'll be sacrificing a LOT of graphics quality. My 1080p tv needs more than a 4850 to run everything smoothly (COD4 being an exception, but just barely). That means that as newer graphics engines come out you're going to need to upgrade too soon. I HIGHLY recommend at least a 4870 with 512 MB of onboard RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as

Though Powercolor is not the best manufacturer for quality, I understand your need to keep your prices down, so this is about as good a value as you're going to get in a GPU that can fill your 1080p screen.

Your assumption about quality based on storage capacity of an HDD is quite confusing. I would emphatically encourage you to consider the 640GB Blue from WD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as

It's a 2-platter design and has some of the best seek times, energy efficiency, temperature and acoustic rages of any value-oriented HDD on the market and it's a great price for it too. I also appreciate that you have extra storage via Firewire, so this change is not essential, but the $/GB ratio is much better on the drive I've chosen for you.

Case and Optical drive I won't even bother with. You get the case you like, too personal a choice to recommend something. Optical largely makes very little difference. Choose between Lightscribe or not and you're set.

    Hope you find this helpful.

Nascar Nation? What do you think?

Jayski.com is reporting that Speed is going to reformat the %26quot;Trading Paint%26quot; show that starred John Roberts and Kyle Petty into a trivia style game show for fans still hosted by Roberts and Petty. So here's my question.....Do you think %26quot;Old Fart%26quot; and I (the two trivia buffs on this forum) would stand a chance? How 'bout it O.F. you up for a one on one no holds barred trivia contest between you and I? LOL!

Seriously what do you think about them changing the Trading Paint show which I really enjoyed into a game show of all things????Nascar Nation? What do you think?
I wouldn't mind having them have some kind of trivia segment. Like a viewer call-in segment, or something like that. But it would suck for them to scrap the whole show format, in favor of a game show.

You would think that they would be afraid of losing ratings by alienating their fan base. But then again, there is certainly no lack of places to get your mundane, everyday NASCAR news. So maybe they are trying this to feed of the NASCAR fame, but go with something new and original. I still don't see it being to big of a hit.Nascar Nation? What do you think?
I never really watched trading paint, but if it became a trivia contest I would for sure watch it. I live for game shows/ trivia shows!! And I think you could definately hold your own up there!Nascar Nation? What do you think?
I enjoy %26quot;Trading Paint%26quot; and hearing the thoughts of Kyle Petty. I really liked it when %26quot;Trading Paint%26quot; had 2 members of the media on and asked their opinion of different subjects.

I don't know if I would watch a trivia show. I enjoy trivia and seeing if I remember the answers or not.Nascar Nation? What do you think?
I don't I think I would win because I know everything there is to know about Nascar and I would stomp you in the ground.

For you question on dual or quad, get Quad. I bought a computer about a year ago and got dual core because I thought quad wouldn't be needed for a few years. Well, I need to get a quad because my processor can't keep up, even with some browser games.

Make sure you get at least 2.8ghz+ for CPU speed. A lot of games right now are needing 2.4-2.6 minimum. Might as well be a bit ahead of the game. How is this PC build, make it better if you can?
Wow ugh it will run 8 windows of crysis 15 windows of cod 4 %26amp; 5 and you could be on 8 windows of internet at one time.

    Why is twilight so popular?

The Twilight series, written by Stephenie Meyer, has become a smash hit all over the world, selling 25 million copies worldwide and 20 million in the United States alone. Twilight, the first book in the series, has been named a New York Times bestseller and Publisher's Weekly Best Book of the Year. Quite a shame, considering the substandard quality of these novels. In asking fans what precisely they loved about these books for the purpose of trying to discover exactly how such novels have become fabulously popular, it seems to boil down to three reasons: One, Twilight is entertaining simply for a fun read, with a rather unique plot line. Two, the fluffy love story appeals to the inner romantic in many, many girls and women. Three, Edward Cullen. Twilight in a nutshell: Isabella(Bella) Swan moves to Forks, Washington and meets the Cullens, the impossibly beautiful vegetarian(meaning they only suck the blood of animals) vampire family. Edward Cullen, the only single vampire out of the lot of them, can read everybody's mind but Bella's, and thinks Bella's blood smells utterly scrumptious. They fall hopelessly in love. While playing baseball with his family, vampires who eat humans come and see Bella, making them want to eat her. James, the enemy vampire, lures Bella to a dance studio, but is thwarted by the Cullens. Happy endings ensue. While this certainly is an extremely abridged version of the plot of Twilight, not much else happens, really. When looking at the raw ingredients for the plotline, Twilight seems somewhat promising. The interpretation of vampires is unique and potentially appealing. Admittedly, Ms. Meyer's decision to make the reason that vampires cannot go out in the sun the fact that their skin sparkles in sunlight seems rather questionable, but the idea of making them the perfect predators by using their physical beauty to lure their prey in, then their superhuman speed and strength to kill is an interesting concept. However, the idea is squandered in Twilight, and in its place, a shallow, illogical romance is written in. The section of the book where the enemy vampires come to Forks, incidentally, the only section where there seems to be an actual plot, gives the impression of being hastily tacked on to the end of the novel on the realization that one can't properly end a book with just a groundless love story. The romance in Twilight is not only very, very cheesy, but also incredibly shallow. Edward and Bella fall in love based solely on Edward's looks and Bella's smell. It seems that half the book is dedicated to describing how stunningly attractive Edward is, with Bella marveling at his smooth, hard skin, his perfect muscles, his Adonis-like body, his more-glorious-than-an-angel's face, his beautiful crooked smile, his captivating eyes, his velvety voice, his disconcerting movements, and of course, his mouth-watering breath. All of this, of course, is made even more spectacular when he sparkles like a diamond. Okay. Maybe half the book is an exaggeration, but hearing again and again about how perfectly god-like Edward Cullen gets extremely tiresome. Stephenie Meyer makes full use of her thesaurus for Edward, using every possibly adjective to accentuate his gorgeousness. Twilight manages to make Edward so beautiful that Bella actually is in anguish about it. Direct quote from the text: %26quot;He was too perfect, I realized with a piercing stab of despair. There was no way this godlike creature could be meant for me.%26quot; Of course, if Bella is pained by Edward's magnificence, there is no shortage of fangirls willing to take her place. However, other than his glorious beauty, there doesn't seem to be any truly desirable trait in Edward Cullen. In all honesty, his only distinguishing personality trait is his abrupt and often violent mood swings, clocking in at an astounding 37 inexplicable changes of attitude throughout the novel(Note, this does not take into consideration any of switches that were deemed explainable, regardless of whether or not they were a completely unnecessary overreaction. Otherwise, the count would be at something around 60 or 70.). Even Bella, utterly infatuated as she is, notices this, asking him if he has a multiple personality disorder. In addition to this, Edward seems rather stalkeresque. After seeing Bella for three days(not accounting for the approximate week where he went to Alaska in order to not smell her dangerously appetizing scent), Edward breaks into Bella's house and watches her sleep for months. Amazingly, Bella, rather than be creeped out and take a restraining order on him, is flattered by his spying, and only gets upset when she realizes he heard her talking in her sleep about him. He is also excessively controlling. When James decides to hunt for Bella, Edward throws her into his car, orders his brother Emmett to restrain her by strapping her to the seat and grabbing her wrists, and refuses to listen to anything she has to say until forced to by hiWhy is twilight so popular?
Ok first of all, you REALLY didn't need to describe half the book in you'r question! I got like three fourths of the way to the end, and had to give up! As an answer to your question, Twilight really shouldn't be so popular! It isn't detailed (at all, basically- I haven't read the books, but i've heard this stuff from Twilight fans) and it doesn't have a real point to it. The only real reason people love it, is because a few popular people started to read it, and other kids wanted to be like them, so they read it, and somehow convinced themselves they loved it, too! This is just a guess, but I think it's a pretty good one.Why is twilight so popular?
And just so you know i have even less of a life, theres 40k + words in the full one, and theres a edward vs edward elric fanfic somewhere in it ^.^

Over Clocking My AMD 3800+ X2 CPU?

    CPU-Z States the Following:

    Core Speed: 2000mhz

    Multiplier: x10

    Bus Speed: 200mhz

Well i have a vague idea on how to Over Clock Things

and so i did a little bitty test to see if it did anything

I wasn't expecting any noticeable results more to see if my computer would die from me doing it.

    QUESTION!

I went into my bios soft menu and i changed my FSB to 220mhs and Left My Multiplier at x10

So am i now running at 2.2ghz? Am i missing anything?

What volatages should i be running per level of over clocking. As in @ 2.2ghz 1.4v 2.4ghz 1.45v 2.6ghz 1.5v

and so on so forth. Not saying thats what the actual voltages would be just showing you how i want you to explain it to me :]

If you could let me know ASAP That would be great i wana see if i can get up to 2.4ghz maybe...Dont really know how it will go, i have 4 90mm case fans and a stock heatsink that came with the cpu so who knows. I'll keep an eye on my tempsOver Clocking My AMD 3800+ X2 CPU?
You only need to increase voltage to stabilize your overclock. Increasing Vcore also increases the heat generated by processor. If you do not use memory frequency divider, it is your RAM that will hit instability sooner than your processor.

Except for the %26quot;X2 Black Edition%26quot;, upper multipliers are LOCKED. You can only adjust processor clock.

It may help if you read more on overclocking:
