Seriously why do so many people think DragonForce is so bad?

I'm a big DragonForce fan. Huge in fact. I've seen them live twice and met them personally on both occasions so my opinion will be a little biased but none-the-less I will try to explain why I think they're awesome live and in the studio with as much fact and little opinion as possible.

Point 1 DragonForce sucks live?

I'm arguing for their current playing so I can't argue with you on how they played several years ago. But when I saw them I really focused on herman and sam's playing to see if they could do live what they could on the album. The songs definitely sounded different than they did on the album. Most of them are played a half a step down or two from what they're played on the album. Also live shows have a hell of a lot more bass making the guitar sounds a lot more mellow. This has absolutely nothing to do with skill. This is not a failure to recreate what's on the album. It's a fact of life. It sounds different live. Playing with tuned down guitars is not a %26quot;mistake.%26quot; It's a choice. So I started focusing on the actual notes Herman and Sam were playing and they never really missed any... at all. At either performance. The only slipup i noticed was when Sam was being a douche and tried to reach over and hit herman in the back of the head causing him to miss about 5 or 6 seconds of the through the fire and flames solo but other than that they pretty much nailed every note (and I have a damn good ear take my word for it). The solos are mellower and less defined but this is not because of mistakes. This is because you're getting sound directly from a bunch of huge *** amplifiers and speakers all at once as opposed to hearing studio recordings that have been perfected over a long period of time. This dampening effect is less distinguishable with other bands simply because most of them play simpler music. Green Day's power chords will still sound pretty much like power chords when played live. Also many people claim the singer is out of key when... he's simply not. Yes you can find videos of ZP Theart (the singer) struggling at the end of a long concert when he's been singing for hours and he's losing his voice but... to say he sings out of key is simply wrong. Many people also claim that the drummer just bangs on the snare the whole time. However the drum beats that Dave achieves are actually pretty damn complicated and if you slow down the audio you can see this. For example the drum beat of through the fire and flames is very similar to that heard at the beginning of Kryptonite by three doors down (only twice as fast). Also the accusation that they speed up their solos in the studio is also simply wrong. There are videos of them recording up to speed in the studio and they are doing just fine. Trust me guys it's not that hard. They can play 15 seconds of a solo over and over and over again until they get it right. Even a sucky guitarist wouldn't have to speed them up. So after seeing them live twice I fail to see any point on which they suck live at all. They were incredible in fact. Stage effects, stage presence, all of it.

Point 2 Do all their songs sound the same?

Not really. You're probably thinking this is an opinion but again... not really. It depends on what aspects of music please you. For example. A friend of mine dislikes DragonForce very much. All the songs sound the same to him but he listens to music mostly for lyrics. Lyrics change little from song to song. they're all about flying free and fire and flames pretty much. Fair enough. The songs will sound the same to a person who listens to music for lyrics. The songs will also sound the same to someone who listens to music for variety in song structure and tempo (until Ultra Beatdown, they toned a lot of it down on that album). This person will think that all DragonForce songs sound the same. However then there is a person like me whose musical taste is about 75 percent influenced by melody. This is where fact comes in and opinion is thrown out. Take the two songs Through the Fire and Flames and Operation Ground and Pound for example. These two songs are often criticized for having nearly the exact same chorus. Lyrically there's some similarities (%26quot;so far away, and far away%26quot;) but the melodies are different. The chorus of Through the Fire and Flames is a minor key and Operation Ground and Pound's chorus is in a major key. To someone who listens to music for the melody this is a night and day difference. A major key produces a feeling of happiness and a minor key produces a feeling of fear, regret, sadness etc... My point is that DragonForce songs gain their unity by the different combination of key changes, minor, major and blues combinations that someone who listens to music for lyrics or rithym simply will not pick up on. When I watch DragonForce videos on youtube where people have combined various DragonForce songs in such a way that they think they have exploited DragonForce's lack of variety simply because of a constantSeriously why do so many people think DragonForce is so bad?
i nor any one else wants to read your long points! im just gonna give you a short answer: ALL THEIR BEATS AND RHYTHMS ARE THE SAME IN EVERY SONG! its like listening to the same song over and over again.Seriously why do so many people think DragonForce is so bad?
i don't have time to read your whole thing but i'll get back to itSeriously why do so many people think DragonForce is so bad?
Is that a question or an essay?Seriously why do so many people think DragonForce is so bad?
Because playing a guitar really fast isnt good music, it sucks and is boring to be honest...its the same thing everysong! fast stupid fantasy gay guitar with gay bad fantasy crap vocals and a decent at best drummer, i get so sick and boring of it after 20 seconds.Seriously why do so many people think DragonForce is so bad?
If you have to write this much to defend them i think you answered your own question. Sounds like they are boring and repetitive

Slayer rules!!!!!!!!!!!!Seriously why do so many people think DragonForce is so bad?
probly because almost anyone whos heard of Dragonforce knows them from guitar hero. not alot of people like that song because its so hard. a bad 1st impression so people say that they suk because theyre not good enough for it.Seriously why do so many people think DragonForce is so bad?
I don't like powermetal really, therefore I do not like dragon force.Seriously why do so many people think DragonForce is so bad?
I am not weighing in on the debate. But this one line makes total bunk out of all you type.

Also live shows have a hell of a lot more bass making the guitar sounds a lot more mellow.

They do not use a bass player they have a keyboard player. So........Seriously why do so many people think DragonForce is so bad?
its to long to read but i know the answer

they just suck that's all you need to knowSeriously why do so many people think DragonForce is so bad?
For me a band should have talent both in the studio and on stage.

DragonForce are, imo, crap live.

The fact that I hear about them speeding up their music in the studio makes me lose respect for them as musicians.

Their lyrics are ridiculous and they don't shy away from being a bit cheesy. That wouldn't matter if the music was any good. It's not though. And yes, they're songs sound Very similar.Seriously why do so many people think DragonForce is so bad?
Reasons why I hate them:

They fail.

They're fake, they speed up their music in the studio.

The suck live.

The have no talent.

All of their songs sound the same.

Their lyrics suck.

Quit your crying.Seriously why do so many people think DragonForce is so bad?
1. They suck live. It has nothing to do with tuning. They cannot play nearly at the same level of their studio sound because of:

2. They utterly fake their sound with studio re-edits. The sound booth incredibly edits the sound that DragonForce makes by speeding it far up. Playing live, Sam and Herman can barely get 3/4 of the speed of the sounds that the studio inflated.

3. Every song has lyrics that sound like they came from a World of Warcraft handbook.

4. %26quot;if however you listen to music for other reasons than melodic patterns then yes you will find very repetitive drum beats and song structure%26quot; Music isn't only about %26quot;melodic patterns%26quot;. Variety in song structure and a little variety in drums is needed in order to actually change the overall sound of a band, making them more than a one-trick pony.

5. %26quot;The only slipup i noticed was when Sam was being a douche and tried to reach over and hit herman in the back of the head causing him to miss about 5 or 6 seconds of the through the fire and flames solo but other than that they pretty much nailed every note%26quot;

... I think that's about it.Seriously why do so many people think DragonForce is so bad?
ok kinda long but your point is made i respect ZP's contra-alto keyed voice and the people who hear them are all like %26quot;oh slayer kerry king blibbity blah%26quot; but the reason why people think they suck so bad is because of thier live preformance i'm not guna type that dragon force sucks cause umm they don't and herman and sam sound freaking amazing and the drummer(whos name i fail to remember) he is a fast guy but people mainly don't like them because of genre really power etal is more of modern day priest fans (considering Timothy Owens is the singer of iced earth)and they have a bass and keyboardest i've read the tabs for all then instruments and i can keep key with ZP i love DF but they do need to work on the greasy looking hair
