Dodge shadow 3.0L 5speed tranny swap.and any performance info to make it faster plz plz plz.?

i love this little car i asked a couple other questions about it i really want to get sum answers on this. my dodge shadow has a 5 speed tranny in it now.these are the ratios for each gear.

1st...3.29

2nd...2.08

3rd...1.45

4th...1.04

5th...0.72

im just wondering if their is a tranny out their that will mount up to this engine that is possibly a 6 speed or that has a smaller ratio so im not screaming down the highway in 5th gear. it accelerates fine. but with this ratio at about 65mph its at about 3000 to 3500 rpms i really dont know how accurate the tach is. but it is reving pretty high i can hear it. and the temp gets pretty high to from that constant RPMs but its not scary hot. just wondering if this is normal. or if someone could give me a ratio that could fix this and can i get new gears put in it and if i do that around how much would it cost and if im splitting the tranny any other advice for what i can do to make it accelerate faster. this is just an idea. im not really serious about doing it. but if someone throws a good idea my way i might consider it. i just read alot of info on this car and it pretty rare to get one with a 5speed and its also very quick ive read alot on the internet about these cars blowin mustangs doors off and what have you. but she aint running like she use to. o yeah and is their a performance chip that can be bought for this car. and if my rev limiter is at 5500 how can i change that. cause it sounds horrible at about 4000 to 5000 rpms. it sounds like its spitting. like air or something idk. fans of this car or the 3.0 engine plz throw whatever you got at me.Dodge shadow 3.0L 5speed tranny swap.and any performance info to make it faster plz plz plz.?
No there is no 6spd transmission that bolts to the 3.0.

The RPM limit on a 3.0 is 6500RPMs. There is no drop in performance calibration. You need to use megasquirt for that.

I bet your driveability problems is related to the MAP sensor. The vacuum line from the plenum to map sensor gets dry rotted and cracks. Thus leaking vacuum and throwing off the MAP reading just enough that it makes the car run like crap but doesn't throw a code. You can try replacing the vacuum line, but it probably won't work. In my 3.0 days, I tried that and it didn't work. I had to dig around the dealer parts catalog for the actually dealer sourced line. That line is shaped a certain way and affects the readings.

You are going to have a hard time finding the part number for that vacuum line. When I went through this, the dealer had to call their tech hotline. The good news was that the tech on the phone knew exactly what we were looking for. This was over ten years ago. lets hope chrysler has updated their parts system.

Your cooling problem is related to the cooling system. Not the RPMs you are pulling at highways speeds.

Hovering at ~3200 is totally normal for 5SPD cars. All my 5spd cars hover around that rpm point. My 3.0 Daytona with 3.77 gearing, my Shadows with 3.50 and 3.85 gearing or my neon with 3.94 gearing.

I wish people would actually know about these cars before the make such general posts. You do have several options to change your gearing. Its true the A543 tranny with 3.77 gears in your car is the only one to bolt to the block.

What they don't seem to know is that the A523 and A568 are basically internally the same. That means you can change the overall gear ratio by swapping internals around. The 90+ A523s use 3.50 and 3.77 gearing. The 90+ A568 was 3.85. Since you are complaining about high RPMs, then you want to find an A523 with 3.50 gearing. That gearing is usually 90-91 and in sedans. The caravan 5spd usually has 3.77.

The other kicker in this? You can use a Quaife or OBX limited slip the 523 and 577. The A568 only has the quaife available.Dodge shadow 3.0L 5speed tranny swap.and any performance info to make it faster plz plz plz.?
It's like Dodge man, myself and some others told you a week ago, you're wound out at 5,000. If you want to go 6-7,000, pull the engine and rebuild it for speed and power. You'll more than likely have to go with a lot of custom built parts ($$$). You MAY find a turbo for it somewhere but be prepared to shell out the bucks for that too.

If you're turning 3,000-3,500 at 65 MPH I think something's wrong like a slipping clutch, my '92 Dakota 4x4 with 3.55 gears only turns 2,000 at 65 in top gear and that's a three speed automatic with OD.Dodge shadow 3.0L 5speed tranny swap.and any performance info to make it faster plz plz plz.?
dont know told you right ,there's not another transmission that will bolt up to that engine, that's extremely high rpm,s on it though, adding a larger tire size will reduce the rpm,s some, the 3.0 usually wont run that high of rpm,s at that speed,i agree with the the above answer something is wrong somewhere,if the timing is set to high that will cause the rpm,s to be real high on it at that speed, have it checked and see what its setting at,good luck.
