My first reaction is that they should maybe try a blockbuster offer with Florida for Willis and Cabrera, but then again the Cards would have to give up way too much for that --- like Pujols.
As far as Scott Rolen goes, let him go. He's whining in St. Louis now just like he did towards the end of his time in Philly. CF is an issue for the Cards. Edmonds is one of the greats, but his body is in the twilight of its career. Torii Hunter would look good in Cardinal red.
As far as pitching goes, look at Shawn Chacon with the Pirates. He might be on the block, and would definitely fare better in St. Louis than where he's at.What big name bat and pitcher is realistic for the Cardinals to get this off season??
Willis no doubt. What big name bat and pitcher is realistic for the Cardinals to get this off season??
they need livan hernandez who is as durable as it gets always pitching 200 innings and getting 30 starts, with andruw jones to replace the aging jim edmonds in center, maybe mike lowell to play thirdWhat big name bat and pitcher is realistic for the Cardinals to get this off season??
I am a diehard Cards fan as well, but man, these deals are outrageous. We don't have enough to get Cabrera, and Ramirez would only be traded for literally 5 top teir prospects that are ready to play today. Basically, he's not going anywhere. However, Willis is a much better possibility. The Marlins are going to need offensive help next year, especially if they deal Cabrera. Their outfield is just dismal, so I think a Duncan, Reyes, Thompson deal would be enough to get Willis. People may argue with me on that one, but Willis has been slowly declining since his rookie season. That's what scares me, because we've seen it happen to Mulder over the past couple seasons as well. Another thing to keep in mind is that if there's any team that knows how to get the better end of a trade, it's the Marlins. How do you think they stay competitive with the lowest payroll in baseball? They have ultra smart scouting and management.
Willis would be an interesting pick up, no doubt, but I think a Garland type would be much better here. Garland hasn't dipped as much as Willis has, and he has postseason experience as well. Plug him in with one of the best pitching coaches in the game and a team that has a rich history and great fans, and it's usually a recipe for success. What big name bat and pitcher is realistic for the Cardinals to get this off season??
Stan Musial and Bob Gibson.
