I know it has something to do with the ceiling fan that was just installed, but I am not certain of how that would cause a 'ploink!%26quot; sound from the breaker box. If the fan is shut off, there is no sound and the light comes on just fine, but if the fan is on... %26quot;PLOINK!%26quot;
All of the breakers in the box (not counting the dryer and other big guys) are 20 amp, which should be enough for the fan. Whatever makes the noise is not causing any breakers to trip, and so I am at a loss. The sound comes whenever the switch is turned ON or OFF, or whenever the fan speed is changed (including changed to OFF).
What is going on?Whenever we turn the light on, there is a popping sound from the breaker box, no breaker trips...why is that?
The fan has a short in it. It may be in the fan itself not in your wiring. Check your wiring and if there are no breaks or obvious crossed wires I would return the entire unit for a replacement.
Leaving this alone and doing nothing will eventually cause a fire. I would also change out the breaker since it is arcing and not breaking. This indicates it is bad as well.Whenever we turn the light on, there is a popping sound from the breaker box, no breaker trips...why is that?
Sounds like the tab the breaker is in is arcing.Sooner or later its going to burn away unless it is fixed.To check turn off the fan and breaker and pull it out.Check the alluminum bar(it should be silver) if it is blacken or looks rough get it fixed(or use another breaker) ie just follow the smoke :) Whenever we turn the light on, there is a popping sound from the breaker box, no breaker trips...why is that?
Could be a loose neutral (white wire) in the breaker box and you are getting an arc.
